The presentation will highlight how insurance can help Belt and Road investors manage their risks, and how Hong Kong can complement national policies to support Mainland enterprises to go regional and global.
The US represents the largest final consumer market with nearly 30% of global household consumption. As it contemplates more protectionist policies, the world may have to find itself a substitute. China is a strong candidate thanks to its economic size (USD11tn+) and growth track record (6 %+). Chinese aggregate final consumption went from representing 1/10 of the US in 2005 to 1/3 in 2016. Can China replace the US as the World’s largest consumer market?
The content will include the market loss details, enlightenment, improvement of measurement and future underwriting in Macau after Typhoon Hato.

The insurance industry has had a long standing relationship with crisis response consultants. Specialty Risk Insurers have engaged response consultants since the 1970’s to address matters such as kidnap for ransom, extortion and political risks. Historically, response consultants were called on to assist carriers with pre-incident consulting, marketing support and of course crisis response. Over the last decade or so, the role of the response consultant has changed dramatically. Today, the relationship between the assured, the response consultant and the firms they work for are closer than ever before. This session will touch on the evolution of the crisis response consultant and address ways in which brokers, carriers and risk managers can partner with these professionals to create opportunities, enhance protections and drive value.
Blockchain – the future is now. The secure, decentralised and distributed ledger enabled by smart contracts – is something that has been discussed by the tech community for a few years now. But the practical implications, and benefits, of blockchain for the risk and insurance business are only just beginning to be realised. Hélène Stanway, Global Digital Leader at XL Catlin, will share her vast expertise in this keynote and look for an interesting dialogue with the audience.

Since 1854, Baglietto has built the story of yachting, passing through glorious successes to difficult moments but always maintaining the brand’s strength. The construction of a superyacht is a challenging and exciting long-term process, yet full of risks that threaten all parties involved. The superyacht is for a select few -only 235,000 buyers in the world can afford this luxury “toy”. The competition is intense, the market’s waves can be an unpredictable variable, the suppliers are often small companies, experienced but disorganized. For the shipyard, every Buyer’s request or need not properly managed could cost time, money and brand image. Quality, respect for time, accuracy, craftsmanship, and project management are key to achieving success in this business; to miss even one of these points is a great risk in this sector where a paradox is always possible: the more you sell the more you risk to fail.
